When we visited Dublin recently, we were excited to check out the Convention Centre Dublin. This stunning building is a real highlight of the city’s modern architecture.
It’s not just a venue for conferences but a piece of art in itself. We also stayed at The Marker Hotel nearby, which turned out to be a perfect choice for a comfortable and stylish stay.
<h3>A Marvel of Modern Architecture</h3>
As we approached the Convention Centre Dublin, we were immediately struck by its striking glass façade and the unique, iridescent cone shape that defines its silhouette. Opened in 2010, it is known for its innovative design by the renowned architect Kevin Roche. The building’s exterior features a shimmering, colorful glass skin that reflects light in fascinating ways, making it a standout feature on Dublin’s skyline.
The Convention Centre Dublin hosts a wide range of events, from international conferences to corporate meetings and exhibitions. While it’s primarily a venue for events rather than a typical tourist attraction with scheduled tours, we were fortunate to explore the public areas and enjoy the architectural beauty of the space. The Centre is open to visitors when events are not taking place, and admission is generally free unless a specific event requires a ticket.
<h3>Nearby Comfort: Anantara The Marker Dublin</h3>
After soaking in the building’s grandeur, we decided to check out one of the nearby luxury hotels—Anantara The Marker Dublin. Located just a short walk from the Convention Centre, The Marker is a stylish and contemporary hotel that perfectly complements its modern surroundings. The hotel is known for its sleek design, top-notch amenities, and exceptional service.
We enjoyed a stay in one of their deluxe rooms, which offered panoramic views of the city and the River Liffey. The room was spacious and elegantly furnished, with rates starting around €300 per night. The Marker Hotel also boasts a rooftop bar with stunning views, perfect for unwinding after a busy day.
<h3>Dining Delights at The Marker</h3>
Dining at The Marker Hotel was a culinary highlight of our trip. The hotel's restaurant offers a sophisticated menu featuring both Irish and international dishes. We indulged in a delightful dinner where the standout dish was the slow-cooked lamb shank, paired with creamy mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, priced at about €28. For dessert, the dark chocolate mousse with raspberry coulis was a perfect ending to our meal, costing around €10.
For a more casual bite, we also tried the hotel’s Lounge Bar, where we enjoyed a hearty lunch of traditional Irish stew and freshly baked soda bread for €16. The relaxed atmosphere and excellent service made it a great spot for a leisurely meal.
