When we set out to explore Chicago, the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse was high on our list of must-see attractions. Nestled at the entrance of the Chicago Harbor, this iconic lighthouse offers a unique blend of history, scenic beauty, and maritime charm.

Dear Lykkers! Here’s a glimpse into our unforgettable visit.

A Beacon of History and Scenic Beauty

Our adventure began as we approached the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse, which stands proudly on a breakwater in Lake Michigan. Built in 1893, this historic lighthouse is not just a functional navigational aid but also a symbol of Chicago’s rich maritime heritage.

The lighthouse itself isn’t open to the public, but the views from the nearby Navy Pier are spectacular. The walk along the pier offered us panoramic views of both the lighthouse and the expansive lake.

Visiting the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse

While we couldn’t go inside the lighthouse, the surrounding area provided plenty of photo opportunities and breathtaking scenery. The best time to visit is early in the morning or late afternoon, as the lighting enhances the beauty of the lighthouse and the lake.

The lighthouse is visible year-round, but the Navy Pier, where the best views are found, is open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. Admission to the pier is free, making it a great spot for a leisurely day out.

Where to Stay: The Loews Chicago Hotel

For those looking to stay nearby, we highly recommend The Loews Chicago Hotel, located just a short drive from Navy Pier. This upscale hotel offers luxurious accommodations with stunning views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline.

We were impressed by the modern amenities, including an indoor pool and a rooftop lounge. Room rates start at around $300 per night, but the comfort and convenience make it well worth the price. The hotel’s location also puts you within easy reach of the Navy Pier and other downtown attractions.

Local Eats: Savoring Chicago’s Culinary Delights

No trip to Chicago is complete without indulging in the local cuisine. We found a few standout eateries that are definitely worth a visit. Just a short walk from Navy Pier, The Hampton Social offers a fantastic dining experience with a menu featuring fresh seafood and upscale American fare. We enjoyed a delicious Lobster Roll for $24 and a flavorful Truffle Mac & Cheese for $18. The lively atmosphere and stylish decor made it a memorable dining experience.

Another great option is Beatrix, a local favorite known for its creative and healthy menu. We sampled the Grilled Avocado Toast for $14 and the Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl for $16. The vibrant, contemporary setting and the emphasis on fresh, wholesome ingredients made our meal both enjoyable and satisfying.

Final Thoughts

Our visit to the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse was a memorable part of our Chicago adventure. The combination of historical charm, picturesque views, and nearby attractions made for an enjoyable day out. Whether you’re a history buff, a photography enthusiast, or simply looking for a scenic spot to relax, the lighthouse and its surroundings offer something special.
