Lykkers, our recent trip to the Dolomites was a journey filled with awe-inspiring landscapes and exhilarating adventures. Located in northern Italy, this mountain range is renowned for its dramatic peaks, picturesque valleys, and charming alpine villages.
Here’s a look at our unforgettable experience and some must-see attractions that you should definitely include in your own itinerary.
<h3> Marveling at Tre Cime di Lavaredo </h3>
Our adventure began at Tre Cime di Lavaredo, one of the most iconic and stunning spots in the Dolomites. These three distinctive peaks are renowned for their striking shapes and breathtaking views. We hiked the loop trail around the peaks, which is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) long and offers incredible vistas at every turn.
The trail is open year-round, though conditions vary with the seasons, and there is a parking fee of €30 ($32) per vehicle. The hike took us about 3-4 hours, and the views of the rugged rock formations and the surrounding landscape were nothing short of spectacular.
<h3> Exploring Lago di Braies </h3>
Another highlight of our trip was Lago di Braies, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Dolomites." This stunning lake is known for its crystal-clear waters and picturesque mountain backdrop. We rented a rowboat and spent a leisurely afternoon paddling on the lake, taking in the serene beauty of our surroundings.
The lake is accessible from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily, and there is a parking fee of €8 ($9) for the day. The calm waters and the reflection of the surrounding peaks created a postcard-perfect scene that made for an unforgettable experience.
<h3> Adventuring at Cortina d'Ampezzo </h3>
Our next stop was Cortina d'Ampezzo, a charming alpine town known for its vibrant atmosphere and excellent outdoor activities. We spent a day exploring the town and took the cable car up to the Faloria ski area. The cable car operates from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a ticket price of €25 ($27) for a round trip.
From the top, we enjoyed panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. During winter, Cortina is a popular ski resort, but even in the summer, it offers fantastic hiking trails and mountain biking opportunities.
<h3> Tasting Local Delights </h3>
No trip to the Dolomites would be complete without sampling some local cuisine. We dined at “Ristorante La Tavernetta,” known for its hearty alpine fare. We enjoyed a delicious plate of speck platter, which included cured meat and local cheeses, priced at €18 ($20).
For a satisfying main course, we tried the canederli (bread dumplings) in a rich broth, which cost €15 ($16). The rustic atmosphere and delicious food made it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploration.
