Our recent adventure took us to the stunning landscapes of Chile, where we had the chance to explore some of the most awe-inspiring volcanoes in the world.

From towering peaks to breathtaking vistas, our trip was filled with natural wonders, delicious food, and comfortable accommodations.

Discovering Chile's Volcanoes

Our journey began with a visit to the Villarrica Volcano, one of Chile’s most active volcanoes and a highlight of the Chilean Lake District. Standing at 2,847 meters (9,343 feet), Villarrica offers dramatic views and thrilling experiences. We took a guided tour that included a trek up to the summit, where we could peer into the volcano’s steaming crater. The tour, which operated daily from 7 AM to 4 PM, cost about CLP 70,000 (approximately $90) per person. The hike was challenging but rewarding, offering unparalleled views of the surrounding landscapes.

Next on our itinerary was the Lanín Volcano, located in the northern part of the Patagonia region. This dormant volcano, which rises to 3,747 meters (12,293 feet), is renowned for its striking snow-capped peak. We enjoyed a scenic drive through the nearby Lanín National Park, which is open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM. Entrance to the park is CLP 7,000 (about $9) per person. The park offers numerous trails and viewpoints, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the serene beauty of the Andean landscape.

Savoring Local Flavors

After exploring the volcanic landscapes, we were eager to sample some local Chilean cuisine. In the town of Pucón, near Villarrica Volcano, we dined at La Maga, a charming restaurant known for its hearty Chilean dishes. We enjoyed a flavorful pastel de choclo (corn pie) for CLP 12,000 (about $15) and a delicious empanada de pino for CLP 4,000 (around $5). The food was authentic and comforting, perfect after a day of hiking.

In the nearby town of San Martín de los Andes, we visited El Regional for a taste of Argentine and Chilean cuisine. We tried the asado (barbecue) for CLP 18,000 (about $23), which featured tender, grilled meats and traditional sides. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service made it a memorable dining experience.

Comfortable Accommodations

For our stay, we chose accommodations that provided both comfort and convenience. In Pucón, we stayed at Hotel Antumalal, an upscale lodge offering stunning views of Villarrica Volcano. The hotel features elegant rooms, a spa, and a beautiful garden. Rates start at around CLP 120,000 per night (about $155), and the hotel’s restaurant serves delicious local cuisine.

Another excellent option is Huemul Hotel, located in San Martín de los Andes. This charming hotel offers cozy rooms and easy access to the Lanín National Park. With rates starting at CLP 80,000 per night (approximately $104), it’s a great choice for travelers seeking comfort and proximity to nature.
