Our recent journey led us to the enchanting island of Sveti Stefan, Montenegro—a place where turquoise waters meet dramatic landscapes and rich history.
This picturesque island, once a fishing village, has transformed into one of the Mediterranean’s most coveted destinations, offering an idyllic retreat with a blend of natural beauty and luxurious charm.
We began our exploration at the island’s most iconic feature: the historic fortified village. Sveti Stefan is renowned for its unique architecture and stunning coastal setting. Although the island itself is private and access is restricted, we were able to enjoy panoramic views from the nearby public beach and the mainland promenade.
The view from here is simply spectacular—clear blue waters contrast vividly with the island’s terracotta roofs and ancient stone walls. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and capture the perfect photo.
Next, we explored the nearby Park Milocher, a sprawling area of lush gardens and scenic walking paths. The park is open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, with no entrance fee. We strolled through the beautifully landscaped grounds and enjoyed the peaceful ambiance, which provided a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy spots. Don’t miss the view from the top of the park’s hill, where we had a stunning vista of Sveti Stefan and the surrounding Adriatic coast.
For a touch of history, we visited the nearby town of Budva, just a short drive away. Budva’s Old Town, with its narrow streets and charming squares, is a delightful place to explore. We wandered through the medieval walls, sampled local shops, and enjoyed a delicious lunch at one of the seaside restaurants. The Old Town is open to visitors year-round, and wandering around is completely free.
When it came to dining, Sveti Stefan and its surroundings did not disappoint. We enjoyed a meal at the renowned "Restaurant Aman", located within the luxury Aman Sveti Stefan resort. We indulged in their signature seafood platter, which included a generous serving of fresh calamari, shrimp, and local fish, all for around €35. The ambiance was sophisticated yet welcoming, with breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea enhancing our dining experience.
For a more casual meal, we headed to "Sveti Stefan Restaurant", situated on the mainland with a great view of the island. Their grilled lamb chops, served with roasted vegetables and a side of traditional Montenegrin salad, were delicious and priced at approximately €20.
No trip to Sveti Stefan would be complete without taking some time to relax on the sandy beaches. We spent a few hours soaking up the sun on the public beach, enjoying the clear, warm waters. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent, with prices around €10 for the day, allowing us to lounge comfortably while savoring the serene surroundings.
