Our recent adventure took us to Komodo Island, one of Indonesia’s most exotic and thrilling destinations.

Known for its legendary Komodo dragons and stunning landscapes, this island offered us an experience that was both exhilarating and unforgettable.

Our journey began at the Komodo National Park’s main gateway, Labuan Bajo, where we boarded a boat to the island. The park is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, and the entrance fee is approximately $10 USD per person, with an additional fee of around $2 USD for a parking pass if you arrive by car. The boat ride itself was an adventure, with turquoise waters and dramatic coastal views setting the stage for what was to come.

Upon arriving at Komodo Island, we were greeted by a park ranger who guided us through the island’s rugged terrain. The highlight of our visit was, of course, encountering the Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. These prehistoric creatures, which can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh over 150 pounds, are truly impressive.

Our guided tour allowed us to observe them from a safe distance while learning about their behavior and the efforts to conserve their habitat. The guided tours typically last around 2 hours and cost about $15 USD per person. It’s essential to stick with the ranger, as these creatures are wild and can be unpredictable.

After our Komodo dragons encounter, we took a leisurely hike through the island’s lush trails. The trails offer incredible views of the surrounding islands and are a great way to immerse yourself in the island’s natural beauty. We hiked to the top of a hill, where we were rewarded with a panoramic vista of the archipelago, showcasing the breathtaking landscapes that make Komodo Island so unique.

For lunch, we returned to Labuan Bajo and dined at The Sylva Restaurant, which offers a taste of local cuisine with a view. We enjoyed a delicious meal of grilled tuna steak for approximately $15 USD, accompanied by a fresh vegetable salad and a side of coconut rice.

The setting was perfect for relaxing and reflecting on our adventures. For dessert, we couldn’t resist the traditional Indonesian dish of pisang goreng (fried bananas), priced at about $5 USD, which was a sweet end to our meal.

In the afternoon, we took a short trip to Pink Beach, named for its unique pink sand. The beach is a stunning place to relax and swim, and it’s renowned for its excellent snorkeling opportunities. We rented snorkeling gear for about $8 USD and explored the vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life. The crystal-clear waters and colorful underwater world were a highlight of our trip.

Before we left, we spent some time at the local markets in Labuan Bajo, where we picked up souvenirs and tasted some street food. We sampled delicious satay skewers for about $3 USD each and enjoyed a refreshing coconut water, priced at around $2 USD.
