Nestled in the heart of the Dolomites, Cadini di Misurina is a stunning alpine wonder that captures the imagination of every traveler who visits.

Our recent adventure to this spectacular range was nothing short of magical, and we’re thrilled to share the highlights and experiences we encountered along the way.

Majestic Peaks and Scenic Trails

Our journey began with a hike through the Cadini di Misurina’s rugged landscape. Known for its jagged peaks and dramatic rock formations, this area is a paradise for nature enthusiasts and hikers. We set out early to explore the famed Tre Cime di Lavaredo loop trail. This 10.5-kilometer trek, which takes about 4 hours to complete, offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Dolomites. The trail is well-marked and suitable for moderate hikers, though we recommend sturdy footwear and a good level of fitness.

We were particularly enchanted by the view of the Drei Zinnen (Three Peaks), which emerged dramatically through the morning mist. The best time to visit is from June to September when the weather is most favorable. If you’re planning a visit outside these months, be prepared for variable conditions and check local weather updates.

The Lago di Misurina

No visit to Cadini di Misurina is complete without a stop at the picturesque Lago di Misurina. This serene lake, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Dolomites," provides a stunning contrast to the rugged peaks surrounding it. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the lake’s perimeter, taking in the mirror-like reflections of the mountains and the gentle breeze that rustled through the pines. The area around the lake is perfect for a relaxing picnic or just soaking in the natural beauty.

Dining and Local Delights

After a day of hiking and exploring, we were eager to sample some local cuisine. We headed to a nearby mountain hut, or “rifugio,” where we indulged in some traditional Tyrolean dishes. The menu at Rifugio Auronzo featured hearty options like speck platter with local cheeses and fresh bread for around €15, and a delicious plate of canederli (bread dumplings) for about €12. For dessert, the apple strudel, a classic in this region, was a sweet ending at €6.

Another highlight was the charming town of Misurina itself. We found a cozy restaurant, Ristorante Lago di Misurina, where we enjoyed a rich and flavorful polenta dish with wild mushrooms for €18. It was a delightful experience dining with a view of the lake and the surrounding peaks.

Practical Tips

For those planning a visit, it’s important to be aware of the practical details. The Cadini di Misurina area is accessible year-round, but the most popular months are summer and early autumn. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo parking area requires a fee of €30 per car per day, which also covers access to several nearby trails.

Opening hours for the trails are generally from sunrise to sunset, though it’s wise to check local regulations or park office hours for specific details. Rifugio Auronzo is open from mid-June to mid-September, and the Lago di Misurina is accessible year-round.

Lykkers, our adventure to Cadini di Misurina was a truly unforgettable experience. From the stunning vistas and challenging hikes to the charming local cuisine, every moment was filled with awe and discovery. We highly recommend this destination to anyone seeking a blend of natural beauty, adventure, and relaxation in one of the world’s most remarkable alpine settings.
