Hey everyone! We just returned from a fantastic trip to San Juan Island, and we’re eager to share our adventures with you.

This beautiful island, located in Washington State, is a paradise of stunning landscapes, charming towns, and delicious local cuisine.

Whale Watching Wonders

Our trip began with an exhilarating whale-watching tour with San Juan Safaris. We boarded the boat early in the morning, excited for the adventure ahead. The crew was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights about the local marine life. We were lucky enough to spot several orcas swimming gracefully alongside the boat! Tours are available daily from April to October, with tickets priced around $130 for adults. It was an unforgettable experience that made the trip truly special.

Discovering Lime Kiln Point State Park

After the whale-watching excitement, we headed to Lime Kiln Point State Park. Known as one of the best spots for land-based whale watching, the park is open year-round from 8 AM to dusk and charges a small entry fee of $10 per vehicle. We enjoyed a scenic hike along the coastal trails, where we were treated to breathtaking views of the ocean and the iconic lighthouse. It’s a perfect spot to pack a picnic and relax while taking in the stunning surroundings.

Exploring the Charm of Friday Harbor

Next, we explored Friday Harbor, the island’s lively main town. We loved wandering through the quaint streets lined with local shops and inviting cafes. One of our favorite stops was the San Juan Islands Museum of Art, which showcases the work of local artists. Admission is just $5, and it’s a great way to immerse ourselves in the local art scene. Afterward, we spent time in the boutique shops, hunting for unique souvenirs to remember our trip.

Savoring Local Cuisine

Of course, we couldn’t leave without sampling some local cuisine! For lunch, we visited The Whale Museum Café, where we indulged in their mouthwatering fish tacos for about $12. They were fresh and packed with flavor—definitely a highlight! Later, we stopped by Cask and Schooner for dinner, where we tried their creamy clam chowder for around $14. This cozy eatery had a welcoming atmosphere and delicious options that left us satisfied. We also couldn’t resist grabbing some local ice cream afterward; the berry sorbet was a refreshing treat!

Comfortable Stay: The Orca Inn

For our accommodation, we chose The Orca Inn, conveniently located near Friday Harbor. The rates start at $159 per night, and the rooms were cozy and comfortable, providing a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. The complimentary breakfast each morning was a lovely perk, fueling us for our adventures ahead. The staff was friendly and always ready with great recommendations for things to do on the island.

Practical Tips for Visitors

Before you go, we recommend renting bikes to explore the island more thoroughly. Many shops offer rentals for about $25 per day, allowing you to take in the stunning scenery at your own pace. Additionally, be sure to check the Washington State Ferries website for updated schedules, as they can change frequently. Lastly, pack layers since the weather can be unpredictable!
