In 1885, German inventor Gottlieb Daimler integrated an engine into a frame, giving birth to the world's first motorcycle. Motorcycle-related sports involve competitive events using motorcycles, divided into two-wheel and three-wheel categories. Each type is graded based on the engine cylinder's working volume, and competitions include various forms such as off-road races, multi-day events, road races, track races, and endurance races, where rankings are based on speed or driving skill.


1884, British inventor Edward Butler added a power unit to a bicycle, creating a three-wheeled vehicle powered by kerosene. In 1885, German engineer and automotive pioneer Gottlieb Daimler developed a three-wheeled motorcycle powered by a single-cylinder, four-stroke gasoline engine.


On August 29 of the same year, he obtained the patent for this invention, establishing Daimler as the recognized motorcycle inventor. Daimler's first motorcycle had a cylinder working volume of 264 cubic centimeters, generating 0.5 horsepower at 700 revolutions per minute, reaching speeds of up to 12 kilometers per hour.


It featured a wooden structure, belt-driven rear wheel, and auxiliary support wheels on both sides. Recognizing Daimler's irreplaceable historical contribution, the German Engineers Association erected a monument in his honor in Stuttgart's Eugensplatz, where he rode his first motorcycle.


Since Daimler created the first gasoline-powered motorcycle in 1885, the motorcycle's evolution has witnessed over a century of remarkable transformation. The original bike, an authentic representation of Daimler's patented invention from August 29, 1885, is preserved at the Deutsches Museum of Science and Technology in Munich, Germany.
