<b>Ingredients:</b>


• 1 cup sugar


• 1 cup firmly packed basil leaves


• 6 cups water, divided


• 1 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (6 to 8 lemons)


<b>Instructions:</b>


1. In a medium saucepan, mash together the sugar and basil leaves using a wooden spoon. Add 2 cups of water and heat over medium heat. Stir frequently until all the sugar dissolves.


2. Remove from heat and let the basil steep in the syrup until it cools down.


3. Once cooled, strain the simple syrup into a pitcher.
